HCL Connections Ideas Portal

Welcome to the HCL Connections Product Ideas Lab! The place where you can submit product ideas and enhancement request. We encourage you to participate by voting on, commenting on, and creating new ideas. All new ideas will be evaluated by the HCL Product Management & Engineering teams, and the next steps will be communicated. While not all submitted ideas will be executed upon, community feedback will play a key role in influencing which ideas are and when they will be implemented.

Toggle for "Render-on-Demand" Previews in Collabora

Looking for a way to disable the automatic generation of file previews upon upload to optimize storage space on the NFS share and prevent processing overhead for files that are primarily uploaded for archiving and may never be viewed.

Currently, HCL Connections Docs proactively generates HTML previews and thumbnails immediately upon upload. This leads to:

  • Significant disk space is consumed on the NFS share for files that are never viewed.

  • Conversion servers perform intensive rendering tasks for archival data.

Transitioning to a "Render-on-Demand" model ensures that storage and CPU resources are only utilized when a user explicitly clicks "View."

I use several other tools like Nextcloud, which include Collabora but just show file icons or file list. I see no real value in having thumbnails/previews in the list/catalog. Having a thumbnail for images is fine (and can be created separatly like today), but file preview need a large amount of resources and could be skipped.
